There are quite a few CG softwares that produce 2D (2 Dimensional) graphics. The disadvantage of 2D software is that they can only move or be animated along the X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) axes.
3D adds depth (distance) as another dimension. It utilizes the Z axis. 3Ds Max helps artists to imitate real-life motion and perspective effectively.
